A while back I promised to share a post about all the good music I've been listening to lately. Now, I haven't been 'in the music loop' lately and you will probably have been listening to all of these tunes for weeks and I'm going to look like a total loser... but here it is anyway.
First off, I'm going to send you to a page where you can here a cover of Outkast's song 'Hey Ya'. It's done in a completely different way and I can't get enough of it. Go here and just wait a few seconds, the song will start playing or click here and see a video of Matt playing it live and unplugged. Matt Weddle is the guy singing and his band is called 'Obadiah Parker', you can read all about them on the myspace page. The 'Oh Ya' tune and O.P. album is available via iTunes (just incase you want more).
While visiting one of my usual blog haunts I heard a song that was embedded in the blog that I immediately fell in love with. I figured out it was "Littlest things" by an artist named Lily Allen. Lovely song, and the beginning actually reminds me a little of a Cat Stevens song and it reminds Ken of another artist... just one of those kinds of tunes. Definitely worth a listen (the link above goes to the music video on Youtube.)
Next up is a song I first heard several weeks ago on my XM radio. "Fidelity" by Regina Spektor. Ya, I know you've probably already heard this one, but by golly it's good and worth a few more listens, no?? Here is the video, again, on Youtube.
The next entry was a complete shock to me. You may remember him from last years American idol top three finalists. It's Elliot Yamin!! Well, he's back, he's got 50,000.00 worth of porcelain veneers, a perm and just came out with his own album (March 2007). AND I like it! The song that plays on his myspace page (link above) is the one I have in my itunes playlist, I've listened to all the songs and they are all pretty good- kind of similar to each other but in a good way.
I'm only going to say Corrine Bailey Rae. That's it. Check her out NOW, thank me later. It's All good.
If you read Amalah.com then you've heard of the next artist. Amy Winehouse. Holy bejeebuzz am I ever in LOVE with Amy. I have several songs from her latest album (Back to Black) in my iTunes playlists, but my absolute fave tune has to be "Me and Mr. Jones". She's got a really retro sound that I don't have the language capabilities to describe so you just have to listen (scroll down on this page to 'listen to samples').
The Be Good Tanyas, have you ever heard of them?? Hubby and I have been listening to them for years now and I'm realizing now that they should be at the very top of this blog post because I love, love, love them that much. The song I have in my current iTunes play list is called 'Dogsong' from the album 'Blue Horse'. If you visit their myspace page, there are a few songs listed on the right that are all good, especially 'Littlest Birds' which was used in a Zellers commercial a few years back and you Canadians may recognize it from there.
With the addition of the song "Close to you" by the Cure that is the end of my current favourite iTunes play list.
